Project 01 – Isabel Lieb

Hiya! I chose to do Maria (Julie Andrews) from the Sound of Music šŸ™‚

I’m also realizing now that all of my files are cropped strangely because Illustrator includes everything outside of the image when exporting to a jpeg, but that’s okay by me for showing it as a work in progress–hope you don’t mind! It’s not completely finished either, so let me know if there are any weird spots to work out.

  1. This looks really great! I appreciate where your text is placed. It’s very readable and well laid out. The high contrast to the background makes it pop really well. I also enjoy that you used the dark color sparingly. I think that it might get muddy if you overused the color. I do see in the original image that there are a few really dark spots in other areas. Have you thought about accenting those? That’s really specific and completely a suggestion, but just thought I’d add it if you we’re looking for something more to add. I think your project is very successful though!

  2. I love the color scheme – the colors you chose go very well together and I feel that they fit both the original photo and the character. The text placement and font used are both well-chosen, and the details on the eyes look amazing. I’d suggest adding some blue shadows to the right side of her face so that it has more definition and stands out more from her hair. Keep up the good work!

  3. Awesome, awesome work so far! I really love the way in which you’ve handled the hair details and the hat. The color scheme is very nice too. It’d be cool if you added a bit more of the skin tone color on the left side of her face, just under the eye, as I feel that this would balance out her face a bit more. I can’t wait to see it once it’s done!

  4. Love the contrast between the blue and salmon color! The offset and disjointed background was also a really cool aspect to add into the design. My only suggestion would be to darken the blue background, it’s a little close to the blue of the hat. Overall killer design!

  5. I would hang this on my wall, its very pleasant to look at, and the two very different colors work extremely well together. One suggestion I would have is that the dark blue seems a little unbalanced, I would maybe suggest adding some more of that color throughout in areas such as around the nose, underneath the chin, as well as underneath the hat. This would emphasize the face a little bit more as well as create a more balanced piece!
